Positional Release Massage Matthews NC
Positional release therapy is a technique that has been developed to release tense muscles by applying pressure to specific areas of the muscle or muscle groups. The muscle that is being focused on is positioned in such a way that it is at its shortest possible length. This is much more comfortable for the client as the amount of pressure that is applied can be quite painful if the muscle is still elongated.
Many therapists utilizing positional release therapy do the techniques while the client is fully clothed and only work on areas that need specific attention. I however, have found that by incorporating these techniques into my full body massage sessions I can achieve maximum results. There are many different draping techniques to ensure that clients are never exposed.
Imagine having pain in your bicep, if you were to apply pressure to the exact location where you are experiencing pain with you arm fully extended, you would experience an intense amount of pressure and increased pain. By flexing the arm toward your shoulder you reduce the length of the bicep muscle and when you apply pressure to the same location you will experience less pain than if your arm was extended.
This also gives your muscle more slack and it helps your nervous system to realize that there is pain associated with that area due to unnecessary tension. This enables your body to alleviate the tension naturally and therefore stop the pain. Positional release therapy can also be used in conjunction with Active Release therapy where I would actually assist the client in moving their muscle while holding the area being focused on. I will go into more detail about that particular therapy on another page.
After receiving treatment it is not uncommon to experience mild pain in the general area of focus. The pain should feel as though the deep lying muscles have been manipulated and as the superficial tissues restructure there can be some mild discomfort.
